To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

Life teaches us many lessons

Life teaches us many lessons

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.

8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.

12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.

23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ‘In five years, will this matter?’

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

Words to live by – The Four Agreements

Don Miguel Ruiz in his Toltec Wisdom Book: The Four Agreements states it so well:

Simplicity in Life...

Simplicity in Life…

(1) BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORDS.

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

(2) DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY.

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

(3) DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS.

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

(4) ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST.

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstances, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

Bali Spirit Festival, Ubud, Indonesia – A Celebration of Yoga, Dance, Raw Foods & Love

A great time was had by all in Ubud this year at the second annual Bali Spirit Festival…I had an Iridology booth at the Dharma Fair this year for the first time, and I was really excited to see people interested in what I do and to feel the response from my Iridology readings. My intentions for coming to the festival were to network and get a feel of the ‘scene’ here in Bali and, all in all, I felt that those goals were met 🙂 I connected with some great people, many of whom are locals and are involved in the raw food, yoga, meditation, detox, cleansing, energy healing spiritual healing world in Bali. I also met some great people who happened to be here on holiday and were able to enjoy the festival as well. I’ve got several clips on youtube from the festival itself…I’ve included them below for your to enjoy!

Bali Spirit went for 5 days from the 28 April to 3 May, 2009. I was so fortunate to have Alan as my friend, support and local guide during my time in Ubud, and also Monika who helped to take care of the booth, promote me and also be my videographer – Monika you did the best filming out of everyone so thank you!!

The gathering was all about Yoga, Meditation, Movement, Spirituality and Health.

Next year if I come back, I hope to share the booth space with some other cool folks to have more of a shared experience so I look forward to that! Here are my other interviews and video clips from the festival:

My booth at the Bali Spirt Festival featuring Iridology Readings and Crystal Healing. I also did a lot of Crystal Readings as well – this is really a unique type of energy reading that I really love to do – be sure to try it if you see me in Ubud at Bali Spirit again! We also sold lots of 100% cotton sprout bags and crystal mineral spray deodorant – both top selling items at the event!

Here I am talking about local foods that were available to eat at the festival so you can see for yourself the abundance of raw food love and organic, healthy Balinese fruits and vegetables.

I think here I am dabbling in the free sample spirit of the festival…hehe and showing you the fresh local cacao grown in Bali as well as other organic foods for sale.

Did I find more cacao? 🙂 Well I know how to enjoy a festival, that’s for sure! This was a great booth, full of locally grown raw cashews from Bali as well as cacao cashews snacks and a great Balinese sea salt for sale. Free samples? Yes! Lots! Come to the festival and see for yourself!

Just in case you were wondering what the actual yoga events look like at Bali Spirit, I take you inside the gates so you can check out the vibe and hear some of the live music, perhaps getting a feel of the celebration for yourself!

There is my awesome friend Alan in the background, a true free spirit and artist at heart – a great video just to see the Dharma Fair itself where the vendors are set up to sell their crystals, raw foods, jewelry, incense, clothes and of course food from the raw food restaurant Little K KAFE in Ubud and well as other local restaurants. Yum!

In between working 9-10 hours every day at the festival, I somehow managed to see a bit of Ubud thanks to Alan…we spent one morning in the local market where Alan worked on some drawings and I just sat and enjoyed the commotion, watching all the locals come and go, buying veggies, drinking coffees and selling flowers. We also had some time to shop for Buddhas which was the only thing I wanted in Bali, so I took home 3 to add to my collection for the ‘meditation room’ in my future healing center – hehehe…

In the midst of all that, we also had some fun time catching up and drinking gin and tonics…oops! but ok, I am on holiday here 🙂 and we even managed a visit at his friend’s amazing house, which is available for rent if anyone is interested and house $900 USD/night to spend (don’t all jump up at once!)…it’s amazing, check it out at Villa Pantulan.

One day during the festival, I was jetted off to the Green School outside of Ubud, where I met the staff and gave them a green smoothie demonstration class! It was so much fun watching all the adults getting into the power of the greens. Ronald Stones, the director, told me that they plan to add Green Smoothies to their school canteen menu, and I really hope they do! If we can teach the younger generations about the importance of greens in their diet, then perhaps we can start to change the pattern of destruction in health, diet and lifestyle today. GO GREENS!!! And thank you BALI 🙂

If you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by and say hello! I will be having a booth at the Bali Spirit Festival this year doing Iridology Readings and taking on the very important task of spreading love, consciousness and healing energy 🙂

I will also be available for transition to raw food consultations. And, if I plan my weight restrictions well, I should have some fabulous crystals to sell including my favorite secret ‘manifestation’ stone. There should be some amazing raw foods there made by the Little K KAFE in Ubud – yum! Sounds like fun 🙂 🙂 Hope to see you there!!

The festival runs from April 28th to May 3rd 2009 in Ubud, Bali. So, how’s the green smoothie revolution going for everyone back in the real world? Don’t forget how much value just one change like adding a green smoothie to your diet every day can make. If you are starting to feel overwhelmed by the stress of every day life again, think about doing a 3-day green smoothie fast.

A chance to re-calibrate your body and mind, get re-focused on your goals, and pull yourself back into balance.

You can start on Monday. Just do 3 days, from there you may want to continue to 5 or 7 and realize how much good you are doing for your body just by having these fabulous green smoothies!

It’s important not to let excuses get the best of you. It is so easy to blame work, or stress, or a bad relationship, or cold weather, or bad living conditions on why you haven’t started to make change in your diet and lifestyle, but really the only thing that is stopping you is YOU. We can all think of excuses for our situations, that is not going to help bring about change, so instead look at all the good reasons to start now and realize that the sooner you start, the sooner you will start to FEEL better.

Health is waiting for you. Your body NEEDS it! So does your spirit!! Now is the time 🙂

Make a list of your goals. Re-read it often. Make sure you are doing at least one thing on your list every single day. Watch and observe as changes begin to happen. Enjoy the journey of it all. Share your experiences with others. Realize that you will have good days and bad days along the way. Continue to love yourself through the process. Feel gratitude for your opportunities to heal.

Integrate and Balance your Healthy Journey with your Work Life now!

My message today is so simple yet so needed in this increasingly busy and crazy time…as people become more and more stressed, more and more imbalanced and less and less healthy, we are at a critical stage in our journeys. There isn’t time to put off your healing journey anymore! I have so many clients who are working themselves to death, just hoping that they can get through another year or two of insane hours and horrible stress and then they will stop, change work and find better balance.

What I want to say is you have to find a way to integrate your healthy mission with your work life NOW…because in another 6 months or one year you may just very well crash and burn and not have a chance for change at all! The goal here is to stay on the preventative side of healing and de-stress in natural, healthy ways.

Invest in your health now so you will enjoy your life in the future!!

So the million-dollar question is…how??? There are some simple steps you can take right now. First, start to set boundaries. Learn how to say ‘no,’ even just some of the time. Keep some of your energy for yourself every day – don’t give it all to your job. Make time for exercise – call a friend to walk with and then socialize and exercise at the same time. Make small positive changes to your diet – start somewhere. Reduce your coffee and alcohol intake. Be positive and feel gratitude for what you do have in your life. Thank people around you. Spread happiness, not hatred. Speak only positive things about others.

And don’t forget to start making your Green Smoothies every day too!

Think about your true path, and embark on a journey to follow it. Laugh more. Enjoy life. Live as if this is all there is! All of this is completely in alignment with the Law of Attraction theory, but you don’t have to be a follower of The Secret in order for this stuff to work. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change – remember that!

Now more than ever, it is so important for us to focus on what REAL wealth is, and that is HEALTH! I have 2 clients recently from different parts of the world who had co-workers die of heart attacks in their early 40’s…what a shame and a waste and for what?? All that success and money and no life to even enjoy it or share it with their loved ones.

So please, take care, and realize that money is only money – it can’t buy you happiness, laughter, health or love and these are the things that add true quality to our lives!! Re-focus your energy and attention on the things in life that do matter, be sure to take care of yourself during these stressful times – make rest, relaxation, nutrition and exercise a priority.

Remember that YOU are your most important asset!

As Dr. Bernard Jensen says, ‘Your health isn’t everything, but without your health, you have nothing.’

What a wonderful time to feel the importance of our true goals and intentions, and to bring our focus on what we really want in life, NOT on what we do not want. Take some time to sit down with yourself and visualize yourself in a perfect state of health, in the life that you want surrounded by people who love you, support you, motivate you and encourage you.

Our thoughts create our reality, so be sure to focus your attention on the things in life that you do want.

Good health comes from addressing every level of consciousness. Long term healthy habits come from loving yourself and knowing that YOU deserve the very best of everything in life!

Always remember that HEALTH is WEALTH!

Yes, yes…it is true – you are reading that correctly! I have been humbly trying a different approach on my healing journey for the last week or so and that is by reducing the raw foods and increasing cooked foods in my diet. I’ve been seeing an acupuncturist and he has told me that my stomach and spleen energy are very low and that in order to increase them I have to add more cooked foods to my diet, even if it is on a temporary basis. So I thought about it for awhile and then finally decided well, what do I have to lose really? 34 years of cooked foods didn’t kill me so what’s wrong with a few weeks or even months at this stage?

So, I’ve been eating mainly steamed veggies every day and also an occasional salad or some fruit. I try to stay away from the rice even if it is brown rice because I noticed that the rice really brings my energy levels down. I have also been told that there is too much ‘damp’ in my body and the best way to combat damp is with cooked foods. I don’t mind being the guinea pig here, it if works I shall let all of you know. I think we have to be flexible on our healing journeys and also be open to receiving the right information when it is needed for us. For many of you it may be the perfect time for a raw food cleansing diet and I fully support you on that path. But I have been suffering with some lingering bacterias in my body and all of the raw garlic and raw food in the world has not sorted it out for me yet, so I’m gonna give this 5,000-year old Chinese thing a try. With the change in diet and over 3 weeks of acupuncturist so far, I have felt a difference but I can’t really tell where the big picture is taking me just yet.

I do hope that I will balance out the energies and get back to 90-100% raw food soon!

That’s enough on the body for today…how is everyone doing in mind and spirit?? Here’s a little loving nudge to work on forgiveness in your life, LET GO of any lingering negative emotions and tell everyone in your life whom you love that you love them! When you work on your meditation today, focus on the gratitude that you feel for all of the abundance in your life and visualize yourself in your perfect state of health, whatever that means to you.

We must have the powerful energies of gratitude and love flowing freely through us in order to reach our full healing potential!

I just completed another fast/cleanse which was fantastic! Overall it went very well for me and I managed to clear a lot of imbalance and build-up that I still had in me even after the previous fast.

As I always say, one can never have an ego with the whole cleansing thing – no matter how many times you have done it, there will always be a new challenge or issue uncovered, whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual.

There is always more to learn about yourself through cleansing.

Overall it is so important to stay on track for your LONG-TERM goals. After the fast is where the real work begins. That involves getting rid of bad habits, letting of of any lingering negative emotions and making time for a healthier lifestyle.

Exercise every day, meditate every day, send love and positive energy to everyone, be patient and understanding and just imagine how much more enjoyable your life will be!

Day 3: Juice Fast Detox in Koh Samui, Thailand – Time to Focus

All is going well on the eliminating side of things here on Samui…I am into Day 3 of the fast now and am getting more focused which is good – it always seems to take me a few days to settle my mind into the not-eating mode. I usually like being at the end of day 4 because if I choose to do 7 days then I am already half-way and if I go on to 14 then it’s a simple 10-day countdown left. Generally once I get cleansing I don’t think about it too much…there just always seems to be a lot of ‘mental negotiation’ in the beginning for me.

The weather here has been overcast, rainy and even what I would consider as ‘cold’…I’m guessing that means it’s about low-twenties Celsius which I think could even be in the 70’s F. Today I had a jumper on all day – that is cold for the tropics believe me. I do kind-of like it for fasting though, because when it is bucketing down a loud, torrential tropical rain, there is no pressure to do anything but stay indoors and relax, which is exactly what one should be doing while cleansing (the relax bit that is). I felt no guilt staying home, watching movies and reading all day.

I may be revising my one colema + one enema per day plan to 2 enemas per day, mainly because I do prefer doing my ‘washes’ in the privacy of my clean bathroom at home. I still find that I get adequate volume expelled with the enemas so there is no problem there.

I am having 4 coconuts per day + one or more juices…today I had the green vegetable juice. I don’t really care what the Spa says about juice – like I said before I follow Dr. Anderson’s program and I believe that for me the extra minerals and electrolytes in the coconuts are fantastic. I get my coconuts for 45 cents a piece, and I am well worth less than $2 a day of wonderful nutrition!!

Other than that everything is fine, the fast so far is going according to plan. Oh yes, Guidance…that is the card for me for today, and seems appropriate:

Like the second figure in the background, we may sometimes be a little reluctant to trust this guide when it comes to us, because we are so accustomed to taking our cues from the outside rather than from the inside. The truth of your own deepest being is trying to show you where to go right now, and when this card appears it means you can trust the inner guidance you are being given. It speaks in whispers, and sometimes we can hesitate, not knowing if we have understood rightly. But the indications are clear: in following the inner guide you will feel more whole, more integrated, as if you are moving outwards from the very center of your being. If you go with it, this beam of light will carry you exactly where you need to go.
