There are some books and documentaries that have made me change my focus on how the body works and what really needs to heal itself. The book that has helped me is “La nutrición Orthomolecular’ by Cala Cervera and the documentaries Food Matters and Forks over Knives opened my eyes early this year. I’ve been trying to make a lifestyle change to also encourage my daughters to live healthy! This would be a great start.

My ideal detox location would be the beaches of Hawaii. I love the slow pace of the islands that aren’t as populated as Oahu, plus the weather is always perfect and relaxing.

Back in 2001 I began my journey toward better health after suffering horrible IBS. I found a fantastic integrative doctor (Functional Medicine) who put me on a huge supplement protocol based upon the results of many tests. It was at this time that I discovered, “The Immune System Cure.” It paralleled so much of what she was having me take and it explained how things worked. Back then I had brain fog and was so new to all this alternative stuff, so I read it a few times for it to sink in. I’ve moved onto other books that have touched my life, but this one was key. By the way, within 3 weeks of following the doctor’s orders I felt better than I had in 10 years.

My inspiration came from a book called “Sistah Vegan.” It’s a book about black women and their journey to becoming vegans. Very inspiring for me because the only vegans, vegetarians, raw food is I am aware of are on social media.
