Liver Flush Detox Drink – Recipe for a Daily Liver Cleanse
In an earlier blog post, I talked about the Liver/Gallbladder Flush and outlined the recipe to naturally release gallstones from the liver. In this post, I want to share with you the recipe for a standard Liver Flush Detox Drink. Think of this drink as a much more mild version of the actual gallstone flush…in fact, do not expect any gallstones to come out from this drink as it is not strong enough to trigger that reaction in the body. This drink is perfect for those who are looking to do some occasional mild detoxing of the liver from time to time or for anyone who is preparing to do a fast or cleanse as this drink helps the body to begin a gentle phase of pre-cleansing.
All information in this article is for educational purposes only.
It is not for the diagnosis, treatment, prescription or cure of any disease or health condition.
If you feel unwell after you have had this drink, it is a sign that your liver is detoxing rapidly and for sure you would benefit from additional cleansing, whether it be colon cleansing or liver cleansing. You can have this drink once a day for a period of time when you are working on your liver, and if you enjoy the taste, feel free to have it every day! It is all natural and a fantastic blend of Mother Nature’s cures!
The Liver Flush Daily Detox recipe:
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil – anywhere from 2 Tbsp. to 1/3 cup, as you prefer
- Freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, 1/3 cup
- Fresh garlic, 3-5 cloves
- Fresh ginger, 1/2″
- Cayenne Pepper, dash to taste
- Freshly squeezed orange juice, 2 cups
Put all ingredients in a blender, blend and drink immediately. Think about all the good you are doing for your body!! Enjoy!
Keep in mind that freshly squeezed apple juice is also an excellent liver cleanser as well as dark leafy bitter green juices, so feel free to switch it up a bit if you start to get bored from the Liver Flush Drink. Remember too that everything you eat and drink which is natural will be good for you body!
The liver is affected by all chemicals, pesticides, caffeine and alcohol. Long term, to really help detoxify the liver, it is important to look at all of these elements and how they may be affecting your liver and your body’s health. Remember ‘Natural, Whole & Pure!’
Changing your cleaning agents, body products and clothing to more natural alternatives will all help to take the load off the liver. Imagine how grateful your body will be as you start to get closer and closer to your own Healthy Bliss!!

Are you suggesting substituting the orange juice with apple or green juice and still include all the other ingredients?
Just wondering why specifically oranges vs other lower glycemic options. You mention changing it up with apple juice or green juice. Do you mean instead of orange juice but still including all the other ingredients in the recipe?
Is it safe… Or would it have a similar effect if you mix all ingredients together and drink it that way? Liver/galstone flush.
Hi Hesty, I’m sorry but I do not understand your question. Can you please outline what you are trying to achieve? In this recipe, you are already mixing the ingredients together… so?
Hi, i was diognosed with autoimmune hepatitis. Is this daily detox drink safe for me?
I’m wondering the same
I read your post but I still had some questions. I was really wondering, What is the possibility of having a relapse?
I’m newly sober – 1 month. If there is any insight you could provide, I
would greatly appreciate it.
Dear SH,
Alcoholism and/or drug addiction are not topics covered in this article. A liver cleanse does not guarantee anything having to do with addictions. Getting professional help and support is recommended.
For sure, there is a high probability that you have mineral deficiencies, so you can definitely focus on a clean, high fiber, plant-based, alkaline diet to help your body through the process. Here is an article I wrote about on How to Quit Smoking Naturally that may help.
To your good health,
Jennifer
Does this make your breath smell bad
Dear Nelsa,
I recommend to use ORGANIC garlic as I find it leaves less smell on the skin and less odor from the mouth. Conventional garlic that is non-organic is mostly grown in China, and for some reason I do find that garlic can leave an awful stink in people. Organic garlic has a much better taste too!
My best,
To your health,
Jennifer
Is there any substitute for ginger? I am highly allergic and want to detox my liver. Thank u in advance CT.
Dear Crystal,
You may also be intolerant/allergic to turmeric since it’s in the same family as ginger, so best to leave out turmeric as well. In that case, feel free to make the drink as is minus the ginger. I would suggest you add 1/2 teaspoon organic ground mustard seed as a replacement to the ginger.
Thank you!
To your health,
Jennifer

Hello – would it be effective to swap OJ for grapefruit juice? I follow the AB blood type diet and OJ not good for ABs. Thanks Sathyx
Dear Sathy,
Yes, you can swap out OJ for grapefruit.
(Regarding the blood type diet, I agree with Dr. Gabriel Cousens who once said that it’s a little bit of science turned into a fad diet.)
Good luck!
To your health,
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer
Thanks for your reply – much appreciated 🙂
My rule of thumb in life has always been to get to know myself and one of those ways has been through trying things out. What works for someone else may not be right for me. I don’t believe in one-size fits all. We are all unique. The AB diet really works for me. I had always been full of mucus and sensitivities – which predominantly manifested through my skin and sinuses. When I follow AB rules excess mucus and sensitivity reactions disappear. My body feels finely tuned. But I do fuse it together with a bit of Ayurveda and keeping an alkaline diet too. 🙂
Thank-you again.
Love&Blessings
Sathy x
Dear Sathy,
That’s great! I’m happy you found what works for you! Thank you for sharing your story of success.
My best,
Jennifer
I tried these detox drinks and works perfectly. It helps me to feel better and looks better. I also recommend everyone to try these recipes at least one time.
Thanks for sharing these recipes.
Hi Jennifer,
I want to start the master lemonade cleanse as soon as possible. After reading your article, I decided to do the liver detox first. So yesterday I made and drank your recipe. How will I know if anything has happened, and how long before I can safely start the master lemonade cleanse?
Dear Nina,
This recipe is for a gentle DAILY cleanse. You should not have detox reaction from drinking this mild formula. Perhaps you are mistaking this recipe with the 24-hour gallstone liver flush recipe – that one can be found here.
To your health,
Jennifer
What is the lemonade cleanse?
Dear Marcy,
I’m pretty sure she is referring to the Master Cleanse, a gentle an easy liquid cleanse using water, fresh lemons, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Some people call it the Lemonade Diet.
This liver flush recipe is much more powerful and cleansing for the liver than a Master Cleanse drink because it contains fat from the olive oil. The fat takes the drink straight to the liver and with the other combo of ingredients, the liver can start making BILE – this is the key to detoxing the liver. Bile is a medium in which the liver can dump excess toxins safely out through the small intestine and out through the colon.
My best,
Jennifer
Hi
why do you use ginger and not turmeric rhizome which is specifically active for supporting liver detox? Thank you
Hi Nat,
Ginger in particular is very effective at killing parasitic worms and a part of this detox is to get into the liver and help kill liver flukes. You could certainly add turmeric if you wanted, and you could add milk thistle and dandelion too (2 other herbs excellent at liver detox), but the whole point of a recipe is to combine certain ingredients for a healthy mix and this is the healthy combination I have created for this liver detox recipe. It has proven extremely effective in reversing liver damage.
Depending on the case, I may recommend following up this cleanse with 30 days on organic turmeric capsules or 1 tsp. organic turmeric in a green smoothie daily. Of course, ALL turmeric taken should always be organic since it’s all grown in India and China and you don’t want a low quality inferior ingredient. In my experience, letting the body heal with fewer ingredients and healing foods works better than trying to drink/eat/swallow everything at once. Step by step, gentle gentle wins the race!
To your health,
Jennifer
Hi,
I love the sound of this recepie and i am going to try it out!
I am not so sure how to get the juice out of the garlic and ginger. I do not have a juicer, only NutriNinja for smoothies.
Could anyone describe the process and how you prepare this recepie?
Hi Edita,
You don’t need to juice the garlic and the ginger – just add them to the blender and blend! The only juice is the orange juice and lemon juice – you add those to your blender with the other ingredients (olive oil, cayenne pepper etc). Then BLEND it all in a BLENDER…et voila! You’ve got your liver flush drink!
Enjoy!
To your health,
Jennifer
Hi,I’ll like to know what kind of blend I’ll need to drink. I am diabetic also high blood pressure and 7 months ago I suffered a stock, my colesterol is little bit high same as triglycerides in the top of all this diabetic neuropathy. So I’m in a urgent need, thanks
Hi Jannette,
It’s best to consult your medical doctor with these questions. Thank you and good luck!

Dear Jennifer,
I am a warfarin patient due a heart arrhythmia, I also have cirrhosis of the liver with acetates, for which i have periodic peritonesis to relieve the fluid build-up. I am wondering if this liver detox concoction will effect my blood PT/INR?
is this a fasting cleanse, or can you eat while doing it. also, does it help fatty liver?
Hi Betty,
This is a recipe for a daily cleanse, so it is a cleanse but does not require fasting. I recommend to drink this drink every morning on an empty stomach for 30 days as a gentle way to cleanse. If you like it, of course you can continue beyond that. Outside of this drink, you should eat a normal healthy plant-based diet for maximum results. Good luck and Blessings to your health!
Jennifer
Any thoughts on adding turmeric to this dtink?
Hi Vickie,
This recipe works best exactly as it is. I am sharing the very best combination and ingredients. Hope that makes sense!
To your health,
Jennifer
Very happy to find this! I just did a quick search to find the liver flush drink, I have done 2x 7 day fasts at Spa Samui in the past, I really want to go again, but doing a modified version at home will have to do for now.
Hi Jennifer,
I have high blood sugar and type two diabetes. I’m on metformin and cardiprin. Will it be safe for me to try this drink in the morning? Or should I try a milder version of this? Thanks for your help.
So I modified this a bit because I have severe candida and didn’t want to overload my body with sugar so I skip the orange juice. I have been drinking it for about a week and have started to see little green gallstones come out of me. Nothing like the big ones you get during a liver flush but this drink has helped me immensely – my energy has improved,, my skin is getting better and the whites of my eyes are slowly returning to normal. Thank you so much for posting this amazing recipe! I plan on drinking this daily throughout my candida detox since it’s been helping with die off symptoms as well!
When I drink the juice in the morning, how long should I wait to eat?
I tried it for the first time this morning – it tastes great! It’s already helping to clear my sinuses; I’m hoping it’s doing the same thing for my liver!
Thanks!!
I’m looking forward to trying this and am glad I came across your recipe. Many other ones include epsom salts but I can’t find an epsom salt package that says its safe to take internally. So I’m trying your recipe tomorrow. So would you take this daily, forever? Thanks!
Hi, it says anywhere from 2tbsp to 1/3 cup olive oil, does using more olive oil mean it will work better??
It will be stronger using more olive oil, but mind you…it will be very high in fat then and you might not want to have so much fat from oil every day. If you want to have this drink continuously, I recommend 2 Tablespoons of olive oil per day. Thanks!!
Hi, when you say blend do you mean juice the oranges and lemon and blend the rest with the juice in a blender? Thanks.
Hi Lynn,
Yes! Fresh orange juice means you press the oranges to make a juice. Fresh lemon juice means you press the lemons to make a juice. You can use a simple citrus hand-press and it takes about 1 minute to make the juice needed for this recipe. No juicer required. After the citrus juice is made, you add it to the blender with the remaining ingredients. Bless!
can i do this without Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Cayenne Pepper?
Can you drink a cappuccino without milk? Well yes of course, but then it’s no longer a cappuccino!
This drink works because of the ingredients in the recipe. If you cannot get the ingredients, then you’re close, but not on the target for making a real liver flush drink. Keep in mind that you can order Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and organic cayenne pepper online and have it shipped anywhere in the world for just $4 on international shipping if your order is under 4 pounds.. here, I’ve already found the products for you…click on this link: http://www.iherb.com/tr/cb?pcodes=FLO-62273_SOG-18761&rcode=JHJ003

I have NASH Cirrohsis of the Liver and I am currently taking lactulose~ I would really like to change my dietary habits as I am a self ascribed fast food sugar junkie. I plan on buying a Liver Detox Recipe book this weekend but I was also planning on starting with a 3 day fast so that I can prepare my taste buds for a change. Would you recommend drinking this during my fast- or directly following my fast?
Jennifer I messaged you 13 August with no response yet, I know you must be very busy. I just want to make sure I am not hurting myself with taking this daily. Please send Me an Email on your thoughts. My last liver profile was great, getting another test 9/5. I know this is drink is making things better, My hope is that I can stay on this forever. Thanks sooooooooooooo much. Jim
I have been on this drink for 3 weeks know. I do liver profiles ever 2 weeks the last result were great. I have advanced liver Cancer & take a cemo drug that is very hard on the liver. My liver test controls the drug that I take. How long can I stay on this drink, I do not have any side effect & hope I can drink this daily. Please let Me know if you know of any reason I can stay on this drink forever. Thanks for the info.
I would like know what this means for your fresh ginger 1/2″ it does not say its cup or any other get back to me on this please. thank you.
1/2″ = 0.5 inch Thank you!
Is there a recommended time to do this clense? Morning? Empty stomach? Full stomach? Restrictions like no dairy?
It’s usually best to drink on an empty stomach. I prefer first thing in the morning, so I have the time to prepare it and don’t get lazy and put it off later in the day.
Ideally, one should be on a “no dairy diet” because dairy is mucous-forming and a nutritionally empty food. Of course non-organic dairy is full of anti-biotics and hormones as well…can you see what a contradiction to health it is to have dairy on one hand and do a liver flush drink on the other?
Be sure you are ready for long-term changes in health when using this drink. It complements a healthy diet, so focus on a healthy diet first! Good health is for the rest of your life!
Many blessings to your vibrant health!
Some of u mention that it mskes u feel sick. What does that mean? Is it like nausea or headaches or what exactly
Hi – can I do this milder version of a liver cleanse while I am nursing my 9-mo. I am having some thyroid issues and would like to start with a diet detox and try to avoid having to wean my daughter earlier than I had planned. Thank you 🙂
Jennifer, not to be redundant, but I to had my gallbladder removed. Are there any considerations for this situation prior to trying this liver cleanse? One other question is how often should I do this liver cleanse? Thanx
Hi Alfred, I am very sorry that for legal reasons, I can only advise you to consult your medical doctor. This website is for informational purposes only. Thank you so very much for your kind understanding and I wish you all the best for vibrant health!
I just tried this drink for the first time last night and I felt great this morning! I’ve been tired and in some pain lately and wasn’t quite sure what was wrong. I’m a yoga teacher and live a very active and healthy lifestyle. I took an anatomy workshop this past weekend and figured out that I might need a liver flush. My blood wasn’t absorbing the nutrients from the food I was eating. Do you recommend doing this daily while at the same time eating foods that promote a healthy liver?
This is a fantastic recipe for hangovers and to replenish the liver after a night out.
Hi Becky, I feel very bad for anyone that would use this remedy as a band-aid for an unhealthy lifestyle and I do not recommend people to drink alcohol on a regular basis. If used correctly and for preventative purposes in alignment with a clean and healthy lifestyle, this cleanse can be very beneficial. If anyone has problems with addiction, I strongly advise them to seek professional help and emotional support. Blessings!
Can one use coconut oil in tropical climat?
Olive oil is the standard recommendation for this cleanse. People who have tried coconut oil have reported having little to no results, seemingly from the difference in type of fat. So, in a tropical climate, I would recommend that you buy extra virgin organic olive oil.
what about using real oranges vs using orange juice. I have the nutra blend so I would be using the WHOLE orange.
Freshly squeezed organic orange juice is best. This is a drink, not a smoothie, so there should be no fiber (whole oranges) in the drink. As a liquid drink with no fiber, the oil will go to the liver very fast and stimulate cleansing. Fiber slows down that process. Of course, you can always try with your whole orange and see if you like it….it’s certainly better than not drinking it at all! Thanks and many blessings to your health!
how long should you do the liver flush??
Hi Leah, It depends on your goal. If you are doing a raw food cleansing diet or some kind of change of diet/lifestyle, like giving up alcohol, coffee or cigarettes, you can do this flush every day for 30 days, for example, to help the liver detoxify. For maintenance, you can have it 2-3 times per week.
Will this release parasites into my body?
concerned about the amount of garlic ? I have done a cleanse before and eaten raw garlic (quite often in salad) but there was a few times when eating a clove of garlic that I had severe abdominal pain have you ever known this cleanse to have that effect ?
You may have an intolerance to garlic (and other high sulfur foods like onion and cabbage). If so, then simply do not add any garlic to your drink! Blessings to your health!
I have done several liver flushes over the years to remove gallstones, but sadly had to have my gallbladder removed last January. I am noticing some pain in the liver region and in my intestines and over all am tired a lot. Is this fine to do without a gallbladder?
Wow I was amazed at how great this drink tasted. Are there any other drinks similiar to these one that have the same benefits? Or any foods?
I am going to try this drink this weekend and I had one question about the recipe how much is 1/2″ of fresh ginger?
Hi Jennifer, 1/2″ = 0.5 inches or 1.27 centimeters. As you cut the ginger, you can approximate the size of 0.5 inches x 0.5 inches, or measure it with a ruler if you are unsure. Thanks and good luck!
So much garlic. Can you be around people?
Hi Sharon, In my experience, I find large genetically modified garlic gloves from China (sold at every supermarket) to be very ‘stinky.’ If I buy organic garlic cloves, not only is the taste more mild (as it should be) but there is no ‘stinky’ permeation from the skin for days after. My advice: buy organic garlic cloves!
I must admit this didn’t taste too bad, and you can tell this is going to be beneficial after drinking it.
Can I just go on this diet and drink this the whole day and not eat or drink anything else at all. One of my friend said that she did this (drink the liver flush juice and water) for 8 days and she feels really good after that. I am just worried if I might end up getting gastric or something…
Hello Shan,
I have personally never done a 100% Liver Flush Drink Cleanse, but there is no reason why you can’t do that. Really, it would just be a modified juice fast with some more focus towards liver cleansing. Olive oil is considered a food, so in my opinion, this would not be a true fast, but the oil being high in caloric density (9 calories per gram) should help to ward off any hunger. The garlic and ginger are very cleansing and also contain anti-viral and anti-parasitic properties. The orange juice is high in vitamin C. I would suggest that you make a plan to try to do 3 days and then re-assess how you feel. You can always continue if you are feeling good. It is also important to have a daily bowel movement or consider doing a daily enema if you extend longer than 3 days.
Blessings,
Jennifer
and can coconut oil be used as a substitute for olive oil?
This is a good question and there seem to be varying opinions on it. Many people on the ‘net’ say that coconut oil is fine as a replacement. I personally follow the recipe from Dr. Hulda Clark which specifically advises on olive oil. I suppose you could try coconut oil, but perhaps the fat density is too high (meaning it solidifies at room temperature) for this flush. I’ve done this cleanse 14 times with excellent results using olive oil, and am happy to stay with what seems to work. I hope that helps!
is apple cider vinegar good to use also?
Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (acv) can be used, yes. You could add 1 capful to this drink. It will make the drink taste more sour, so be prepared! I personally love the taste of acv so I don’t mind! Another version if you don’t want the oil is this: water, 1 capful acv, juice of 2 limes or 1 lemon, cayenne, ginger and garlic, blended. Wow – a powerful cleanse and a great way to start the day!
I loved this drink. I used apples. I did feel somewhat ill about 30 minutes later so I guess I should do this more often
