This documentary shows a real life regular Australian guy named Joe who, at 140 kg or just over 300 pounds, was sick with an auto-immune disease and a strange re-occurance of rash and hives. At 40 years old and feeling fat, sick and nearly dead, he finally decided to take his health in his own hands.
Yes, Joe took responsibility for his own health and decided to completely change his diet and lifestyle!

Joe Cross before his detox
In 60 days, he lost over 80 pounds.
It is phenomenal to see the transformation!
And, even better, Joe continued to make changes when he finished his detox. He started exercising, ate salads and juices, and after another 70 days, he not only maintained the original weight loss but lost another 20 pounds.
He also managed to get off all medications – wow, now that is Mother Nature’s doctor at work for some real natural healing!

Joe Cross after - transformation!
At one point, he meets Phil who is over 400 pounds and has the same skin rash condition as him. Phil gets inspired and eventually does the 60-day juice fast himself. It’s really spectacular to see these normal people who were previously victims of fast food and prescription drugs and are now teaching people how to juice kale and apples! I love it!!
So, what about actually doing a 60-day juice fast yourself? Is it safe?
In the movie, both men get clearance from their doctors and also regular checkups during the fast. This is definitely a good idea, especially if you have never fasted before, are on any medications of any kind and especially if you are suffering from any medical conditions.
Was Joe constipated after his detox at all??
60 days is a long time to go without any bowel movements. The thing that Joe never mentions in the movie is whether or not he did enemas or colonics during his fast. Since he didn’t mention it, I doubt he did any. This does concern me, especially when I think of how toxic so many people are today and how they could easily lesson the effects of the detox reactions by doing a daily enema during their fast. I would also recommend certain herbs and supplements to support the body during the process.
Re-toxifying of Heavy Metals
The other issue that concerns me is that people doing a long fast with extreme weight loss can disrupt pockets of heavy metal accumulation in their body. Often times the body will safely store heavy metals in it’s fat cells. It’s a way for the body to try to protect itself from these toxic materials. If you have extreme weight loss in a short period of time, as the fat gets burned, the heavy metals have to move somewhere else…and they can potentially move into and do harm to the organs. In an Iridology reading, we can see if a person has the potential for heavy metal accumulation. It’s a good idea to get checked out, and to also consider doing a heavy metal detox as a follow-up to the juice fast. During the fast, it may also be a good idea to take zeolite as this is a natural chelator for heavy metals and toxins and can assist the body with the detox process.
I particularly like the doctor in the film, Dr. Joel Fuhrman. He had some great quotes:
- Permanent results only come from permanent changes in diet and lifestyle.
- You don’t get permanently well unless you permanently change the way you live.
- Fasting can be used as a time where you re-train your taste buds. If it helps you with healthy eating thereafter, then it’s done it’s job.
- 61% of the American diet today comes from processed foods (predominantly oils, sugar & flour).
- 70% of the diseases that affect us now are caused by our life choices: how we exercise, if we smoke and what we eat.
- Total cost of a heart attack: $56,424 USD. Total cost of juicing for 1 month: $420.

i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT GOES IN A FAST FOR 21 DAY TO 30 DAYS. hOW MANY DRINKS WOULD YOU NEED? pER DAY TO KEEP YOUR STRENGE UP. WOULD LIKE TO START A FAST THIS WEEK. yES i AM OVER WEIGHT AND i NEED TO LOSE 50 POUNDS.
Hi there!
If I remember correctly the doctor in the movie is not Australian, but American. Dr Fuhrman is amazing. I first saw him on a PBS special last year and decided to buy the package they were selling (book, dvds, etc.). The money also goes to funding PBS which I am a big supporter of. Anyways, I too was wondering whether or not Joe Cross used an enema or some type of herbal laxative. It seemed to me he didn’t. I just started my juice fast because I am a 29 year old female that has had psoriasis for years and now I have full blown arthritis. I can barely walk in the morning. I refuse to take any type of pharmaceutical. I did however take ibuprofen for the last three weeks because I was on vacation and the plane ride was killer. Too long sitting in one place. I ate pretty healthy on vacation, but I was still in a lot of pain. This was my last resort. I have not needed any ibuprofen the last two days of my juicing. I’m still sore, but I’m sure I need to detox all that toxic NSAID I had been taking. Also, no constipation. Hope it goes well from here!
i’m on day 6 of my fast and i can’t believe how easy it is. i’ve already lost 13 lbs. i work from home, so its really easy for me to not have any distractions and keep my cravings at bay. i have juice for breakfast and then i just make a fresh juice on my breaks and lunch and then have another one for dinner. i’m drinking around 4-6 juices a day, mainly green vegetables with just one fruit thrown in to enhance the flavor. originally i was planning on doing this for one week just as a quick cleanse before embarking on a lifestyle change (including a trainer and new eating habits), but i’ve noticed an incredible difference with just the juicing– feeling really energetic, my skin looks better and the weight is falling off and all i’m doing is walking! i’m going to shoot for 1 month as i have a lot of weight to lose, and certainly could benefit from a heavy detox. previously i loved eating out, homecooked meals that were high in carbs and fat and lacking in everything else, and enjoyed plenty of wine and other adult beverages. hehe. i’m definitely in need of a reboot so i think 1 month would be really beneficial for me. and aside from being very overweight (5’7″, 244 lbs -started at 257), i don’t have any other ailments or illnesses so i think i should be fine. problem is, when i first started juicing, i was having regular bowel movements, but now i’m not. that can’t be healthy right? if the problem persists i’m afraid i’m not going to be able to continue on with this fast.
is there anything i can do to combat the constipation? i’ve been drinking green tea a couple of times a day, is that bad?
I believe you can take psyllium husk for the bowel movement issues
Joe, I just got out of hosp ICU, bowell obstruction, with a severe Cohn’s Flare up. I had other body sys failures because of it. I am at home now and on a liquid diet. Future looks bleak…can you help. Does your system work for Cohn’s? Your b4 photo is me…the Dr’s and nurses said I looked 9 mos pregnant. Swollen, and solid as a rock belly. It turns it is mainly Cohn’s inflamation. Now out on liquids only I am much smaller belly and lost 10 pounds. I feelJim better but am scared of the future. Dr said, “you must change your life COMPLETELY to survive”.
hello Joe im on day 2 of getting my health back im 100kgs i do not feel hungry and am finding the juices plesant to drink i will be weighing my self every 7 days to see what the result is, iv taken holidays from work for 3 weeks to get my self started cheers sharon
The first few days are tough – but I tell you all the results are worth it. In just 4 days – fruits and vegis smell better! This is a start to a new me. 2013 is the YEAR OF ME. Started with Dr visits, small changes to healthier eating, starting to become more active, no juicing. Lost 14pds over the last 2 weeks! Can’t wait to see what the future holds and hope my husband (who’s body and diet resembles Joe’s prebody/habits will follow in my footsteps!!! I’ve always had an internal picture of myself with square shoulder, strong, and healthy – I will be that person. I am that person. Thanks Joe and your team! – Lots of me to leave behind
