<p>This documentary shows a real life regular Australian guy named Joe who, at 140 kg or just over 300 pounds, was sick with an auto-immune disease and a strange re-occurance of rash and hives.  At 40 years old and feeling fat, sick and nearly dead, he finally decided to take his health in his own hands.</p>
<h3>Yes, Joe took responsibility for his own health and decided to completely change his diet and lifestyle!</h3>

<h2>In 60 days, he lost over 80 pounds.  </h2>
<h3>It is phenomenal to see the transformation!</h3>
<p>And, even better, Joe continued to make changes when he finished his detox.  He started exercising, ate salads and juices, and after another 70 days, he not only maintained the original weight loss but lost another 20 pounds.  </p>
<p>He also managed to get off all medications &#8211; wow, now that is Mother Nature&#8217;s doctor at work for some real natural healing!</p>

It&#8217;s worth watching just to see what they say! </p>
<p>At one point, he meets Phil who is over 400 pounds and has the same skin rash condition as him.  Phil gets inspired and eventually does the 60-day juice fast himself.  It&#8217;s really spectacular to see these normal people who were previously victims of fast food and prescription drugs and are now teaching people how to juice kale and apples!  I love it!!</p>
<h2>So, what about actually doing a 60-day juice fast yourself? Is it safe?</h2>
<p>In the movie, both men get clearance from their doctors and also regular checkups during the fast.  This is definitely a good idea, especially if you have never fasted before, are on any medications of any kind and especially if you are suffering from any medical conditions.</p>
<h3>Was Joe constipated after his detox at all?? </h3>
<p>60 days is a long time to go without any bowel movements. The thing that Joe never mentions in the movie is whether or not he did enemas or colonics during his fast. Since he didn&#8217;t mention it, I doubt he did any. This does concern me, especially when I think of how toxic so many people are today and how they could easily lesson the effects of the detox reactions by doing a daily enema during their fast.  I would also recommend certain herbs and supplements to support the body during the process.  </p>
<h3>Re-toxifying of Heavy Metals</h3>
<p>The other issue that concerns me is that people doing a long fast with extreme weight loss can disrupt pockets of heavy metal accumulation in their body. Often times the body will safely store heavy metals in it&#8217;s fat cells.  It&#8217;s a way for the body to try to protect itself from these toxic materials.  If you have extreme weight loss in a short period of time, as the fat gets burned, the heavy metals have to move somewhere else&#8230;and they can potentially move into and do harm to the organs.  In an Iridology reading, we can see if a person has the potential for heavy metal accumulation.  It&#8217;s a good idea to get checked out, and to also consider doing a <a href="http://healthybliss.net/healthybliss-store/#ecwid:category=628057&#038;mode=product&#038;product=2606010">heavy metal detox</a> as a follow-up to the juice fast.  During the fast, it may also be a good idea to take <a href="http://healthybliss.net/healthybliss-store/#ecwid:category=628057&#038;mode=product&#038;product=2606009">zeolite</a> as this is a natural chelator for heavy metals and toxins and can assist the body with the detox process. </p>
<p>I particularly like the Australian doctor in the film.  He had some great quotes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Permanent results only come from permanent changes in diet and lifestyle.</li>
<li>You don&#8217;t get permanently well unless you permanently change the way you live.</li>
<li>Fasting can be used as a time where you re-train your taste buds. If it helps you with healthy eating thereafter, then it&#8217;s done it&#8217;s job.</li>
<li>61% of the American diet today comes from processed foods (predominantly oils, sugar &#038; flour). </li>
<li>70% of the diseases that affect us now are caused by our life choices: how we exercise, if we smoke and what we eat.</li>
<li>Total cost of a heart attack: $56,424 USD. Total cost of juicing for 1 month: $420.</li>

Esther Hicks is widely known as the Teacher of Abraham who channels his message and spreads the idea of Law of Attraction around the world.  She teaches her followers to &#8216;get in alignment&#8217; with what they want by the power of their thoughts. Esther explains that if they are not experiencing the life that they want, it is because they are thinking about what they don&#8217;t want and therefore attracting more of it. </p>
<p>The story was first reported in a blog called <a href="http://kyrasdiary.blogspot.com/2011/06/source-says-jerry-hicks-has-leukemia.html">Kyra Speaks</a>.  Many of the Hicks-Abraham followers are up in arms over this news. For one, they can&#8217;t understand how, if everything Esther teaches is true, did Jerry get cancer in the first place. If you think about a positive healthy life then you should never attract something like cancer into your vibration, according to Esther.  Second, her fans are upset that they went straight to chemotherapy and did not use this opportunity to stand up to the power of their teachings and actually put it to the test. People are also upset that the Hicks camp seem to be hiding the truth having mentioned a &#8216;spider bite&#8217; as the reason for &#8216;massive chemotherapy.&#8217;</p>
<p>Personally, I love Esther Hicks and her ability to teach how our thoughts can create a reality.  I often quote her in my <a href="http://twitter.com/rawfoodbliss">Twitter</a> and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/rawfoodbliss">Facebook</a> feeds.  She has a way of telling stories which is so genuine and always seems to be the exact teaching that I need. Whether or not she is actually getting her information from Abraham doesn&#8217;t worry me so much; I still value her message and I think it can help a lot of people.</p>
<h3>Does the Law of Attraction work?</h3>
<p>As for Jerry, we don&#8217;t know what he was in vibrational alignment with and what his &#8216;vibrational escrow&#8217; was. Perhaps he had an underlying fear of cancer or dying his whole life.  Perhaps he felt tired of being in the shadow of his wife and was building negative energies around that. Certainly having cancer has given him attention &#8211; maybe he was lacking that in his life too.  What we do know is that he is human and he could have any or all of those energies, even with a great teacher by his side.</p>
<p><div id="attachment_2820" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 210px"><img src="http://healthybliss.net/bliss/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/bodymindspirit.png" alt="" title="Body Mind Balance" width="200" height="166" class="size-full wp-image-2820" /><p class="wp-caption-text">  </p></div>What I do know about Esther Hicks is that she never talks about diet and the importance of food for one&#8217;s health. I have never heard her mention the need to do a physical detox or cleanse to clean toxins out of the body.  She herself doesn&#8217;t have the &#8216;glow&#8217; of health and vitality.  Imagine if Esther Hicks ate a raw food diet and did regular colon cleansing &#8211; how powerful her vibrational alignment would be!</p>
<p>The lesson here is not to disregard the teachings of Abraham or to question the authenticity of Esther Hicks, but to understand how truly necessary it is to treat the mind, body <em>and</em> spirit. </p>
<h3>We cannot heal just the mind alone and we cannot heal just the physical body alone.  </h3>
<p>Wayne Dyer, another well-known self-help advocate, announced in 2009 that he has chronic lymphocytic leukemia.  </p>
<h3>There is a lesson here for us folks!  Do the work, yes&#8230;but also eat the right foods too!!</h3>
<p>It would be a shame for someone to give up on the power of conscious thought just because of this.  So stay in alignment with what you want &#8211; focus on it every day!  And take care of your body too.  Eat foods which are natural, whole and pure.  Clean out the old built-up toxins and make way for a new healthy you!</p>

<p>Perhaps you will say, “What do you mean by inner noise?” All noise is a result of discord, and the noise within us, which is the result of our inner torments and revolt, disturbs the psychic atmosphere.  </p>
<p>He who makes a lot of inner noise does not realize that it is very harmful even for himself, and that sooner or later it will manifest in his organism in the form of a physical or psychic illness.</p>
<h2>Love Your Food</h2>
<p>When you are eating, remember to love your food: only then will it open up and give you all its treasures.  </p>
<h3>You must have noticed how flowers react to the sun: when the sun is there to warm them they open their petals and when it disappears they close up again.  And food reacts in the same way.  If you don’t love it, it will give you practically nothing: it will lock up its treasures.   </h3>
<p>But if you love it, if you eat with love, then it will open, pour forth its perfumes and give you all its etheric particles.  You are used to eating mechanically, without love, simply in order to fill yourselves.  But try to eat with love and you’ll see what a wonderful state of mind it produces in you.</p>
<h2>Gratitude</h2>
<p><div id="attachment_2795" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 210px"><img src="http://healthybliss.net/bliss/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/gratitudefood.png" alt="" title="Gratitude" width="200" height="287" class="size-full wp-image-2795" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Focus on the Positive!</p></div> Even if you are completely snowed under with work, you must never allow it to be a pretext for failing to develop your spiritual life.  </p>
<p>Every day, three times a day, at least, you have a golden opportunity to tune into your Divine Source, for every day, three times a day, you have to eat.  </p>
<h3>Everyone has to eat.  Nobody has time to pray, read or meditate, all right.  But you have to take a few minutes every day for your meals.  </h3>
<p>Then why not make the most of those few minutes and use them to work on your own perfection, to tune into the divine energies of gratitude and love?</p>
<h2>Calm</h2>
<p>When your nerves are on edge, let your meals be an occasion for learning to calm yourself: chew your food slowly, pay careful attention to your gestures, and you will find that after only a few minutes you will feel quite calm again.  </p>
<p>If you start the day in a state of agitation and begin working or talking without doing anything about it, the whole day will be restless and agitated and your energy will all evaporate.  Instead, pause for a moment in what you’re doing, don’t say anything, don’t move, and then, start all over again in a different rhythm and with a different orientation.</p>

<p>Recently I checked out 2 local Pot Lucks while in the USA: <a href="http://www.arnoldsway.com/">Arnold&#8217;s Way</a>, a 100% raw food restaurant in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, and the Kinzer, Pennsylvania Raw Food Pot Luck, an amazing group of people including many of the local Amish!  </p>
<p>Below are some of the raw food recipes from them!</p>
<h2>Raw Food Recipes Galore</h2>
<h3>Pineapple Salsa</h3>
<p>2 tomatoes<br />
½ pineapple<br />
1 mango<br />
1 jalapeno pepper<br />
fresh cilantro (coriander)<br />
dash cayenne pepper (to taste)<br />
Chop all ingredients.  Enjoy!</p>
<h3>“Tuna” Wrap</h3>

½ cup soaked sunflower seeds<br />
¼ cup soaked almonds<br />
2 Tbsp. water<br />
1 ½ Tbs. celery<br />
1 Tbsp. each minced onion, parsley or dill, lemon juice<br />
Tamari (to taste)</p>
<p>Ingredients for Wrap:<br />
2 Nori sheets or fresh lettuce leaves</p>
<p>Ingredients for Garnish:</p>
<p>Fresh sprouts<br />
Thinly sliced peppers of choice<br />
(For a real hardy meal you can also add zucchini hummus or dressing)</p>
<p>In either a blender or food processor: blend water, sunflower seeds and almonds, together so they are well mixed but still  a bit course.<br />
Add celery, parsley or dill, lemon, and tamari to the mix.<br />
Then wrap in a delicious nori roll (or fresh lettuce leaf) with or without extras.</p>
<h3>Pasta with Marina Sauce</h3>
<p>Ingredients for Pasta:<br />
3-4 zucchini or squash, spiralized or shredded using the Raw Food Slicer</p>
<p>Ingredients for Sauce:<br />
2 ½ cups tomatoes and/or red bell pepper (capsicum)<br />
9 sun-dried tomatoes, soaked and rinsed<br />
3 large dates, soaked and rinsed<br />
Fresh parsley, basil and oregano<br />
1 tsp. sea salt<br />
½ tsp. cayenne pepper</p>

<h3>Chia Banana Pudding</h3>
<p>2 cups fresh almond milk<br />
2 cups chia seeds<br />
½ cup coconut flakes<br />
2-3 bananas</p>
<p>Blend and pour into serving bowls.  Chill before serving.</p>
<h3>Donut Holes</h3>
<p>1 cup almonds (soaked overnight &#038; rinsed)<br />
1 cup dried pineapple (with no added sugar)<br />
1 tsp. vanilla extract<br />
1 cup dates (soaked)<br />
3 heaping Tbsp. dried coconut</p>
<p>Put almonds into food processor and blend.  Add remaining ingredients and blend well.  Roll into balls and add additional coconut.</p>
<h3>Raw Pumpkin Pie (from Alissa Cohen Cookbook)</h3>
<p>Ingredients for Crust:<br />
2 cups almonds<br />
1/3 – ½ cup dates, pitted and soaked</p>
<p>Ingredients for Filling:<br />
2 cups shredded pumpkin or butternut squash<br />
1 cup dates<br />
½ cup almonds (soaked) or sunflower seeds<br />
2 tsp. cinnamon<br />
1 tsp. ginger<br />
½ tsp. ground cloves<br />
½ tsp. nutmeg<br />
¼ cup water</p>
<p>To make Crust:<br />
Add all crust ingredients and blend until smooth.  Press down into pie plate.</p>
<p>For filling:<br />
Blend until smooth and pour into pie crust.  Chill before serving.<br />

<h3>Factors that affect pH include stress, diet and lifestyle.  </h3>
<p>If the body is too acidic, you can start to experience feelings of imbalance including gas, constipation, bloating, acne, heartburn, acid reflux, indigestion, mild headaches, gastritis, candida and frequent flus.  Advanced symptoms of over-acidity include Crohn&#8217;s disease and even cancer (all forms).  </p>
<p>If your diet is largely composed of meats, fish, cheeses, breads, white flour foods, greasy take-aways, chocolate, coffee, wine, beer and cigarettes (all acid-forming), you may be suffering from an over-acidic body. </p>
<h3>The body needs an alkaline pH to maintain clean blood, good enzyme reserve and healthy immune function.</h3>
<p>Did you know that antacid pills are the highest selling product in pharmacies around the world?  Imagine how many people could reclaim their health, simply by choosing a better combinations of food!</p>
<p>With <a href="http://healthybliss.net/iridology-online-appointments-available/">Iridology</a>, I can easily assess if my client is suffering from acidosis.  It is one of the first things that needs to be changed for the body to get well.</p>

<h2>Remember the 80/20 rule!</h2>
<p>  The general recommendation to maintain a healthy pH is: Eat 80% alkaline-forming foods and 20% acid-forming foods.</p>
<p>When we talk about &#8216;acid-forming&#8217; and &#8216;alkaline-forming,&#8217; we are looking at how much acid the stomach has to produce in order to digest the food.  An orange, even though it is acidic outside the body, when we eat it, the stomach has to produce almost no acid.  Therefore, oranges are &#8216;alkaline-forming&#8217;.  Conversely, something like bread requires a lot of acid to digest, so it is considered to be &#8216;acid-forming&#8217;.</p>
<p><strong>Put it into practice:</strong></p>
<ul>

	1. Eat more fruits and vegetables!  <strong>Greens are the Great Alkalizer.</strong>  Another reason to have your <a href="http://healthybliss.net/green-smoothies-power-of-the-greens/">Green Smoothie</a> every day!

<ul>2. If you eat meat, bread or cheese, try to <strong>add more vegetables</strong>.  Get creative with your side salads!</ul>

3. Add fresh lemon, lime or raw apple cider vinegar to soups, salads and juices.  <strong>Mother Nature&#8217;s alkalizers!</strong></ul>

4. Take <strong>probiotics</strong>!  A healthy gut is alkaline.</ul>

5. Rest and sleep!  Engage in <strong>positive conversations</strong>.  Laugh.  Practice unconditional love.  All alkaline-forming activites.</ul>

6. Create peaceful mealtimes.  Be <strong>conscious</strong> while you are eating your food.  </ul>

7. Give thanks for the gift of food, an offering to your<strong> temple of a healthy body</strong>, mind and spirit!</ul>

There are 3 main restaurants serving raw food dishes in Maui.  Perhaps the most established restaurant serving raw food in Maui is called Joy’s in Kihei.  It is a small place with a nice friendly atmosphere and offers both eat-in and take-away options.  Joy is a wonderfully warm and kind woman and is genuinely interested in serving healthy, delicious foods.  Some of her dishes include a live wrap with ginger sesame dressing, a nut burger in collard greens, peppermint cacao truffles, live coconut chocolate ice cream, and green smoothies made to order.  Joy’s is open Monday to Saturday, 8:30am – 3:30pm.<br />

Another store serving raw foods is Mana Foods in Paia, on the road to Hana.  Mana is a natural foods store also selling health foods, produce and fresh juices, and has a case of fresh raw foods for take-away every day.  Jason, their raw food chef, is known best for his eggless egg salad, carrot ginger soup and sesame miso nori rolls.  Other Mana favorites include their key lime pie, strawberry cheesecake and hazel fudge brownies.  Mana Foods is open 7 days from 8:30am – 8:30pm.  There is no eat-in service available.<br />

Finally there is Alive and Well in Kahului which serves pre-prepared raw foods in their take-away case.  Their options include a thin slice pizza, raw cole slaw and chocolate cherry torta.<br />

Fresh farmer’s markets are a great source of local fruits and vegetables and are usually open a few days per week at various locations around the island.  There are also a few locations of Jamba Juice around Maui, a similar chain to Boost Juice serving fresh juice and wheatgrass shots.  A Whole Foods supermarket is due to open in Kahului in January 2010 which will be a great option for salads, juices and raw food take-aways.  </p>

<p>Everyone these days seems to either be on a detox, just done a detox or is planning a detox.  People are talking about the ‘Master Cleanse,’ fasting, cleansing and colonics like never before.  Is it normal or even healthy for someone to consider not eating for a few days up to a week?  Will there be any lasting benefits?  Is it something you should be doing?</p>
<p>Ultimately only you can answer these questions.  Personally I have been doing detox programs and different types of cleanses and fasts for the last 12 years, and I think it is the best thing I have even done for my body.  Every time I do a cleanse I feel healthier, more in balance, lighter, purified of negative thoughts, more spiritual and much more in tune with myself.  I have done 1 day, 28 days and everything in between, always testing the limits of what these programs can do so I can better help my clients.  </p>
<h3>BUT I don’t think fasting is for everyone. </h3>
<p> If you are very stressed, toxic or sick, it can be a big shock to your body to go right into a cleanse, and you could end up doing more harm than good.  I think it is always best to go gently into these programs, allowing your body time to build its vitamin and mineral reserve so it has all the elements it needs for healing.</p>
<p>If you want to try a detox program but prefer to get a feel of it for yourself at home first, I would suggest trying a 3-day fruit only diet.  For 3 days, try to eat nothing but fresh fruits, including sweet fruits like pineapple, apple, papaya and banana as well as savory fruits like cucumber, tomato, bell pepper and zucchini. This is a great mini-cleanse and can be done at any time, without having to pay a lot of money or invest a lot of time to start feeling the results.  If after 3 days you still feel good, you can continue for 5 or even 7 days.  After 7 days of eating only fruit, I always feel stronger, healthier and better in every way.  I lose a few unwanted pounds, my skin becomes clearer, my hair shines more and my bowel movements become so healthy, easy and regular!!</p>
<p>Eventually you might want to consider doing a full Master Cleanse or another fast or detox.  In my opinion, doing a cleanse is a great way to allow the body to naturally catch up and clear out any excess toxic buildup.  But the benefits only last if you change your diet and lifestyle after the cleanse and eat better foods, living a more natural, whole and pure lifestyle long-term.  </p>
<h3>If you do a detox, be sure to avoid too much retox!</h3>
